Urgency Engine games are our newest creation, and we love them for three reasons:

1: Simplicity. The Occupied Hex design philosophy is to always boil down fun gameplay mechanics to their simplest essence, and tabletop role-playing game systems don’t get much simpler than the Urgency Engine. Perfect for newcomers and veteran players alike, there is zero prep required to run and play a game— simply sit down and start rolling dice to create the game and characters! These games truly bridge the gap between classic tabletop role-playing games and “party games”.

2: Speed. All Urgency Engine games are designed to be played in a single session but as anyone with “one shot” experience knows, that can often bleed into two or even three sessions. Not so with Urgency Engine games, which use an act structure as well as a timer to ensure every session finishes the story and ends in under two hours.

3: Activity. Thanks to the timed act structure and the unique Hope/Panic system that Urgency Engine games utilize, player activity isn’t just encouraged— it’s paramount to their survival. Players can’t hem and haw or over-plan because they will simply run out of time. This creates great tension in all these survival horror games.
